Wessex Exploration and partner provisionally awarded blocks close to Wytch Farm

Filed in wessex uk Leave a comment

Wessex Exploration (LON:WSX) and its Australian partner Norwest Energy have been provisionally awarded five oil exploration blocks in the English Channel.

Although the Channel is not noted for being prolific in hydrocarbons, the licence areas lie to the east and south-east of Wytch Farm in Dorset, Britain’s largest onshore oil field.

The acreage is believed to contain at least six different structural leads with a geological chance of success ranging from 15 per cent to 32 per cent.

Mirrabooka, a subsidiary of Norwest Energy, will hold a 35 per cent equity interest and a 65 per cent working interest in the blocks. it will also be the operator.

Wessex managing director Frederik Dekker said: “Wessex is very pleased with the offer of this highly prospective acreage and we have every intention with the support of our partner Nortwest Energy Mirrabooka to bring at least one of the leads to a drillable status as soon as possible.”

The pair already hold two onshore petroleum exploration and development licences close to Wytch Farm, part of the Wessex basin, which has produced over 400 million barrels of oil to date.

The field was discovered by the nationalised British Gas in 1973 and began producing oil six years later.

As part of the privatisation of British Gas in the 1980s Wytch Farm was sold to BP, which took over as operator in 1984. In May last year BP sold its interest in Wytch Farm to Perenco.

The field is located in a faulted block of Jurassic and older rocks beneath the Hampshire Basin, close to the steeply sloping fold in the overlying chalk called a monocline.

The Purbeck Monocline defines the field’s southern limit.  it consists of three separate reservoirs known as Bridport, Sherwood and Frome.

Bridport, the first discovery, is in the Jurassic Bridport Sands 900 metres below Poole Harbour.

The much larger Sherwood reservoir – discovered in 1978 – is below this in the Triassic Sherwood Sands at 1,600 metres and extends under Poole Bay.

Frome, meanwhile, extends eastwards from the exclusive Sandbanks area of Poole and Studland across the harbour for around 10 six miles under the sea to the south of Bournemouth.

Wessex’s growing interests in the UK are just part of the story. the group also owns 70 per cent of the Juan de Nova project in the Mozambique Channel, and a 1.25 per cent stake in the Zaedyus discovery off the coast of Guyane.

The company’s share price more than doubled when operator Tullow Oil (LON:TLW) revealed it had encountered significant accumulations of oil last year.

The work also established that Zaedyus was the mirror image of the Jubilee Field off the coast of Ghana and suggests it has uncovered a new oil frontier.

The interest in the discovery was underlined last month when Wessex was able to raise £12 million from institutional investors.

Cardboard Packaging

Filed in wessex uk Leave a comment

There are many packaging manufacturers in the UK that specialise in cardboard packaging and in the manufacture of cardboard & foam packaging and are able to supply bespoke size cardboard cartons as well as bespoke composite packs. they will often stock a very wide range of packaging supplies in both cardboard and foam and will also supply both cardboard and foam in sheet form in a very wide range of sizes & densities. however, these sorts of companies are not limited to cardboard and will often supply and manufacture wooden crates, bespoke size wooden pallets & solidboard tubes.

Surprisingly, there is a wide range of corrugated cardboard box packaging from standard B flutes through to export grade material. Specialists in cardboard packaging are always able to advise on the type of cardboard best suited to a customer’s needs and cardboard materials range from 1.5mm thick up to 9mm thick. these grades cater for small delicate presentation based packaging to standard B flute materials through to CA double wall materials suitable for very heavy weight items. As standard brown board, other colours are used in a range of materials including both white & oyster coloured cardboard.

Black conductive cardboard can also be used to manufacture static sensitive cardboard packaging for the electronics industry. Further to this one or two colour printing can be used for the personalisation of your cardboard packaging.

Often cardboard packaging companies can also manufacture a complete range of FEFCO styles from standard 0201s and 0427 (pizza box style) die cut cartons through to the more complex die cut styles. As well as the outer packaging, cardboard fittings can be designed & developed to support and protect items within the outer packaging. this can range from simple buffers to complex die cut fittings and can be made for a wide range of shapes and sizes.

Cardboard is a simple invention that has literally carried the name of heavy-duty transport for decades. It is a generic term for heavy-duty paper-based products sometimes made by pasting together two or more layers of paper. however it is seldom used in the industry itself because it does not denote a specific material.

It is manufactured on large high-precision machinery lines called corrugators, usually running at 500 lineal feet per minute or faster. these machines over time have become very complex with the objective of avoiding some common problems in corrugated board production, such as warp and washboarding.

Filed in wessex uk Leave a comment

24th November 2011

The popular Colliton Club, situated opposite County Hall in Dorchester, is one of four finalists in the National Club of the Year competition run by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The news emerged at the presentation of the framed certificate for the Wessex Regional Club of the Year – won by the Colliton Club for the sixth time in ten years.

“there are four hurdles to become CAMRA’s National Club of the Year,” said Michel Hooper-Immins, Regional CAMRA Organiser of the Club and Pub of the Year competitions.

“at the start of this year, the West Dorset CAMRA branch nominated the Colliton Club, which gives entry to the regional club of the year competition.

“in August, they won the Wessex regional title and joined clubs from 15 other CAMRA regions in the next round.

The last 16 were then grouped into fours and in the latest round, the Colliton Club beat Dartford Working Mens Club, Cheltenham Motor Club and the Kinver Constitutional Club near Dudley, to rise into the top four for the national finals.”

CAMRA’s prestigious Club of the Year competition has been running for many years.

Colliton Club Steward Neil Gatehouse was presented with a commemorative dish for reaching the finals at a recent dinner in Manchester.

The Regional Club of the Year certificate was also presented by CAMRA Regional Director John Buckley.

Colliton Club Chairman Ian Morton said: “It’s marvellous that we’ve won the regional title for the sixth time and are in the national finals.

“I sincerely commend the steward and his staff on their excellent work. Well done to Neil Gatehouse on finding six superb real ales every week and for supporting West Country breweries, especially the smaller ones and I thank CAMRA for recognising the excellence of our club.”

Steward Neil Gatehouse said: “I was astounded, but ecstatic, to hear the Colliton Club have made it into the top four clubs in the UK.

“It is wonderful to be recognised on a national level and I’m really chuffed to be named as one of the top four clubs in the whole country.

“we will go on serving real ales not usually found in this part of the UK.”

West Dorset CAMRA Chairman Dave Harris is pleased the Colliton Club has gone so far in the national competition.

He said: “It has been consistently excellent over many years and is a great help to CAMRA- in fact we hold some of our meetings there. we in West Dorset CAMRA are delighted to have such a vibrant club in our area.

“we wish the Colliton Club every success in the national competition.”

Bedford – A Wonderful Town in Bedfordshire England

Filed in wessex uk Leave a comment

Bedford is a town that you will find in Bedfordshire United Kingdom. The large location is also the location for the administration dealing with the Borough of Bedford. A rather populated area that has been around for years.

Known as a market town for years, and also for the agriculture that you will find around it. Wool was once a very important trade during those Middle Ages. It would become a boundary town that would separate those locations of Danelaw and Wessex in 886.

The home of the first fortress that would be built by Edward the Elder in 919. though the fortress would be destroyed later on by a Danish invasion. The mounds of Bedford Castle are located in this area, it was built in 1224.

The first charter is found to have been issued by Henry II during 1166. while the lace industry would be one that would prosper in this area during the 1560s. This industry remained very important all the way through the earliest part of the 20th century.

This would be the location that John Bunyan would be imprisoned for twelve years of his life. also where he would pen his work The Pilgrims Progress. with the decline of the wool industry the town would turn to more of an engineering focus. Becoming a big hub for many fine developments.

A wonderful memorial has been erected in the garden to those past soldiers of the First World War. You will find that opposite the Rothsay Gardens. It was designed by Charles Sargeant Jagger in 1921. Another wonderful location to check out is that of St. Pauls Church. A large spire stands tall above the building that was built in 1066.

Also the largest urban park where you can enjoy concerts and cricket, at Bedford Park. Still retaining a look of the Victorian design and a great place for families to relax and enjoy the wonderful location. Another park in the area is Priory Country park that is on the River Ouse.

Visiting Poole When You Go to England

Filed in wessex uk Leave a comment

Located on the coast in Dorset you will find the town of Poole. that is located on the south coast of the United Kingdom and the second biggest population in Dorset. It is thought that people may have lived in this area way back during the Iron Age.

Back during those times the time would thrive in the wool trade, in fact that was the main means of money. plus the fact that it was a port town opened up a lot of trade via the water ways. One of the main ports that was used during WWII for that invasion on D-day too. plus being a port made it a natural attraction to those tourists who would head somewhere to vacation.

A great spot for people to head to visit because of those wonderful beaches. but really offering a lot more for those history buffs out there too. Check out the Poole Arts Center for a lot of past history from this area.

A location that has seen many people claim it in the past; this includes the Celts, and even the Romans. Also when the Anglo-Saxon times would be around this location would have been part of that Kingdom of Wessex.

Being on the water it would be advantageous for many things, including fishing and shipping. King Henry VI saw the importance of this location during the 1400s and would grant them Staple port status.

During the Industrial Revolution the town would grow even more prosperous. Not only from the trades of the harbor, but from many other things. There are some fabulous landmarks that should be seen when you head to Poole. One of which is the Quay and several of the wonderful historic buildings you will find in town.

A wonderful location that offers many things for many people and one that would be a great stop for a visitor.
