Having Fun With Guns: You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out Kid

Filed in winchester carbine Leave a comment

“I want a Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and a thing which tells time”. do you remember that line from the movie “a Christmas Story”? That’s what Ralphie Parker wanted for Christmas. all the adults in the movie kept telling him that “you”ll shoot you eye out”.  Every kid wanted a BB gun when I was growing up. I think that we all had some model of Daisy BB gun. we had fun shooting at cans and all kinds of home-made targets. I don’t remember anyone ever shooting their eye out. back then if you misused the BB gun you would be in a world of trouble with your Father and Mother, and you would never use that BB gun again, at least until you were about 30 years old.
What does this have to do with having Fun With Guns?  A BB gun is great for learning how to safely handle a gun and to learn the basics of aiming, trigger control, and marksmanship. You can use the BB gun in your back yard, the cost of the BB’s is minimal, you can shoot all day for almost nothing, and no one will call the police on you (unless you live in New York City, Chicago, or New Jersey). a BB gun is harmless when used properly and safely. You do have to follow all safety rules and you should use safety glasses when shooting. never point the gun or shoot it at anyone, otherwise it is possible to Shoot your Eye Out.Getting back to the Red Ryder BB gun. in 1983, the story of young Ralphie Parker hit the movie screens. Ralphie was a fictional character from the mind of Jean Shepherd, whose fondest Christmas dream was of a “…two-hundred shot Red Ryder range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.”  The fact that the gun never existed (the gun described was actually a combination of the Red Ryder and an earlier gun, the Buck Jones Special) did not deter the movie production company.  in spite of repeated warnings that “…you’ll shoot your eye out!”, in the end Ralphie got his gun.*

video

The Red Ryder model, manufactured by Daisy Manufacturing Company, was based on a popular comic strip character at the time and introduced in the spring of 1940 and produced until mid-1942 when Daisy’s production was converted to the war effort. It was modeled after a Winchester carbine frequently seen in cowboy movies at the time. in November of 1945 the Red Ryder model was reintroduced. The Red Ryder model was and still is the best-known BB gun ever built.* from the Daisy Airgun Museum website

Daisy Red Ryder Carbine

This gun is still available today and can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Dick’s, Gander Mountain, Cabela’s and many other stores.  Retail price ranges from about $25 to $69. M1 Carbine for survival

Filed in winchester carbine Leave a comment

I have been a fan of the M1 Carbine for years.

Light, compact and quick handling – they are great weapon for smaller shooters and females. Back in the 80′s and early 90′s Iver Johnson made one that came with came with a Choate pistol grip stock (folding also) that I thought was awesome. always like the classic lines of the carbine. I have handled several but honestly have never shot one.

My brother has an old military M1 Carbine and I can truly see the value in this weapon. Back during the Korean war the M1 was not well received. I think that many of the issues were caused from a lack of maintenance as well as expecting more than the design of the gun would deliver. Regardless – .30 Carbine cartridge is capable if used within its acceptable range of about 100 yards or so. the .30 Carbine has ballistic very similar to the .30-30 Winchester – probably the most popular deer hunting cartridge ever.

Auto-Ordnance makes a new M1 which is available in a variety of formats – wood stock, plastic stock, folding stock, etc.  I like the Auto-Ordnance however it is very expensive. my local gun shop sells one for over $700. That is a bit pricey for an M1 in my opinion.

Auto-Ordnance M1 Carbine

M1 Carbine with folding stock – great "Bug Out" gun

I have seen military grade used M1 Carbines for between $400-$500. not too shabby.

Accessories are not very plentiful for the M1 Carbine however they can be customized in a few ways. Magazine capacity is  typically 15 or 30 rounds. From what I have read – the 15 round mags are more reliable and the 30 round mags do better when only loaded with 28. like an AR – 2 M1 Carbine magazines can be clipped together. See here.

The are not very many stocks available to accessorize with. my personal favorite is the Choate pistol grip folding stock as seen on the Auto-Ordnance as well as the M1 Carbine pictured below.

For optics a scope or red dot mount can be mounted. UTG make a scope mount with 1 inch rings combo for around $18.00 or if the rings are not wanted – there is this. if I had an M1 Carbine – open sights would probably be satisfactory but I do like the red dot option.

“Tactical” today generally means being able to mount a flashlight or laser to the weapon. This is possible with a Ultimak rail system. See picture below (as well as the Choate stock picture above):

Of course, regular items like slings and cases are readily available.

One of the great things about living in the United States (at least for now) is the ability to choose from a HUGE selection of firearms which to arm yourself with. the M1 Carbine is one of many.

Anyone wish to share their experiences with the M1 Carbine?

ISRA Supported Suit Against Cook County Succeeds In State Supreme Court

Filed in winchester carbine Leave a comment

CHICAGO, Dec. 4, 2010 – CHICAGO, Dec. 4, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — a case brought against Cook County, challenging its "Assault Weapon" ban passed in 2006, has finally been decided favorably for the ISRA backed Plaintiffs. the case of Wilson, et al. vs Cook County et al., was returned to the State Appellate Court pursuant to the Supreme Court's exercise of its judicial authority, and the First District Appellate Court has been ordered to vacate its decision and reconsider the case based on the recent decision in McDonald vs. City of Chicago. McDonald was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court in which ISRA was one of the Plaintiffs.

In a move that surprised all parties to the litigation, the First District Appellate Court ordered both plaintiffs and defendants to file simultaneous briefs in 15 days, with no Reply briefing allowed. the Appellate court's Order came within days of the Supreme Court's issued mandate, which directs the Appellate Court to vacate and reconsider.

The purported "assault weapons," as defined under the very broad and vague terms of the subject County Ordinance, include numerous semi-automatic handguns and rifles, including the Ar-15, M-1 Carbine, Smith & Wesson P99 pistol, Smith & Wesson 22A, Browning BAR Longtrack, Winchester Super X Rifle, and the Mini-30 Ranch Rifle just to name a few since the lawsuit was filed in early 2007, the enforcement of the Ordinance has been at a virtual stand-still, and the objective of the ISRA is to see that this unwarranted ban is overturned with finality. a supplementary brief is being filed and the decision of the Appellate Court is expected soon. if required, ISRA is prepared to back this case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. since 1903, the ISRA has represented the interests of over 1.5 million law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.

Equipping the soldier of the future – Army News

Filed in winchester carbine Leave a comment

http://www.armytimes.com/news/2010/10/army-gear-for-soldiers-103110w/ New weapons, gear, clothes coming your way

The Army has been pushing to identify gear soldiers need or want, find the best solutions and field them quickly.

The result is state-of-the-art gear going from idea to inventory in less than a year. Some of these projects have made their way into the ranks; others are just around the corner. Twelve of the top items soldiers will see within the year:

• M2010 sniper rifle

The M24 sniper rifle has transitioned from the 7.62mm NATO caliber (.308 Winchester) to a .300 Winchester Magnum. The change is expected to expand a sniper’s effective range from 800 to 1,200 meters.

The rifle also boasts the 10-inch Titan-QD Fast-Attach suppressor, which cuts 98 percent of muzzle flash and 60 percent of recoil, and reduces sound by 32 decibels, Remington says. Rails built into the M2010 chassis and a free-floating barrel help give tighter accuracy.

The improved 6.5-20×50 variable power Leupold scope has an enhanced reticle within the first focal plane. that means the reticle power will scale with the zoom up to 20 power; snipers will have to make fewer calculations as target distances change.

• Tactical Assault Panel

This panel is another key piece of the new combat load. It enables soldiers to carry more magazines with wider distribution — and mobility equals survivability.

Eight single pouches can be configured to carry either 10 M4 magazines or six magazines with other gear such as the Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio, or MBITR; the Defense Advanced GPS Receiver, or DAGR; or M14 magazines.

The design also reduces the soldier’s profile.

Ground Penetrating Radar identifies buried mines and explosive devices — even those that are nonmetallic and nonmagnetic. It typically is mounted on the forward arm of the Husky mine detection system.

Roughly 80 are in theater and another 76 were ordered in June and will be delivered by the end of November.

• Enhanced Night Vision Goggles

Enhanced Night Vision Goggles add thermal detection, enabling soldiers to see the heat signature of people and vehicles at night, in all weather and in degraded battlefield conditions, with a 50 percent probability at 300 meters and an 80 percent probability at 150 meters, according to Army data.

The Army has dropped $770 million to provide the goggles to 50,000 more soldiers.

Army Combat Uniforms have more than the distinctive Operation Enduring Freedom camouflage pattern going for them. there are no more crumpling collars and less Velcro. Cargo pockets on the trousers have buttons, and the crotches are stronger. The uniforms come with insect-resistant permethrine treatment and provide better flame resistance.

Soldiers heading into theater are issued four sets.

• looking through walls

“Sense through the Wall” technology, also known as the AN/PPS-26, is a lightweight, battery-powered detector that uses radar waves to detect human targets through 8 inches of adobe walls or other barriers. The waves detect movement — even the breathing pattern of a person in hiding, according to Army data.

The detector has a 60-foot reach, meaning an operator can “sense” 10 feet into a building if he is standing 50 feet away, or 60 feet into the building if the detector is placed against the wall. A red dot identifies the individual behind the wall, and provides the distance from and direction to that person.

The Army will buy up to 9,212 detectors over the next three years. It is expected that one detector will be issued to each infantry squad.

The T-11 static-line, non-maneuverable parachute can carry more combat gear — up to 400 pounds, which eliminates the need to adjust jumper weight for high-altitude drops. The 18-foot-per-second rate of descent results in 49 percent less landing force when the soldier hits the ground, officials said. this has cut parachute-landing fall injuries by more than half.

The three-phase deployment gives a smooth opening, and a slider takes out extension twists as the jumper goes from a horizontal to a vertical plane. and unlike the T-10, which has a vent in the center, the T-11 has four corner vents that greatly reduce oscillations.

A new harness design allows soldiers to jump while wearing body armor. D-rings are in the area of the chest instead of the stomach, so a soldier who pulls his reserve is suspended from his shoulders in a much-preferred vertical orientation.

The T-11 will replace all legacy chutes in five to six years, officials said.

The second-generation Improved Outer Tactical Vest uses a plate carrier to allow soldiers to shed up to 15 pounds while keeping vital organs protected from 7.62 caliber, armor-piercing rounds. The IOTV still provides protection from flame and shrapnel.

The side plate carrier is adjustable to provide better comfort and protection.

The soldier’s quick-release cable is covered to prevent it from being caught during egress. The medic cable is contained in a canal to keep it in a comfortable position. this cable enables a medic access to a wounded area without completely removing a soldier’s body armor.

Soldiers will soon get either an improved M4 or a new, better carbine altogether.

The first part of the Army’s dual strategy is to radically overhaul the M4 to give grunts an improved version of the special operations M4A1. this offers a heavier barrel, automatic fire and ambidextrous controls.

The next 12,000 M4s will be A1s. another 25,000, as well as roughly 65,000 conversion kits, will be purchased.

The second path challenges industry to come up with a better carbine. No caliber restriction has been placed on a new design. The Army simply wants the most reliable, accurate, durable, easy-to-use weapon. It will be at least a 500-meter weapon and have a higher incapacitation percentage. this weapon also will be modular and able to carry all the existing attachments soldiers use.

The winner will selected by the end of 2011. when you get it will depend on funding.

Countless troops gave the same report: The assault packs are too small for longer missions and the 72-hour ruck is too big. The new ruck provides a midsize solution — with added benefits. its detachable harness allows paratroopers to access the pack after they are rigged for jumping without compromising pre-jump inspections.

The ruck is one of more than a dozen pieces of gear that comprise a new combat load issued to troops in, and headed to, the ’Stan.

Soldiers headed into theater also get two pairs of Danner boots. but Army officials are expected to select a new boot any day. three lighter, stronger boots are being evaluated, and the Army is expected to take delivery early in 2011.

The modular boot will be optimal for Afghanistan’s rugged terrain, and will have a sock device that can be pulled over it to keep the soldiers’ feet warm without causing them to sweat.

• ‘Green ammo’

A 2006 survey of combat vets found enemy soldiers were shot multiple times but were still able to keep fighting. one in five U.S. soldiers polled recommended a more lethal round.

The answer is the M855A1 enhanced performance round, also known as “green ammo.” It provides more stopping power at shorter distances. The older round had to get into a yaw dependency for maximum effect. If it hit the enemy straight, it would punch right through them. The new ammo is not yaw dependent. If it hits the enemy, he is going down.

The Army plans to produce more than 200 million rounds in the coming year.

Armed 12 g Under & over shotgun, single trigger, ejectors, five interchangable choke tubes the best value in a, new over and under on the market today. Truely a Turkish gun made with from Italian designs, a Turkish Delight with Italian good taste. Silver Receiver Model $795.

The Model 213 original basis was designed by John Moses Browning, the world famous firearm designer. in the late 1920s the Colt /Browning mechanism was redesigned by Russian, Feoder Tokerev, simplified for mass production and chambered in the powerful 7.62×25. It used the Mod 1911 swinging link, short recoil system. to enable easy maintenance the hammer and lock mechanism can be removed as a single assemble. to improve the Browning feed system the ammunition feed lips are machined into the frame rather than relying on pressed tin. Which on a battlefield where magazines lips do not get the best attention is a great advantage in reliability and makes the magazines cheaper to produce. It was an extremely tough, reliable and powerful pistol and was later modified by Hungary for export to Egypt this was known as the Tokagypt. The pistol differs from the Tokarev in being chambered for the 9mm Parabellum, and a fitted safety catch (WHICH SHOULD NEVER BE RELIED UPON) as well as the half cock safety.

As can be seen by the inset photo the barrels and chambers are all chrome plated. It has a plastic wrap around grip stock, instead of the Tokerev ‘bakelite’ and a finger piece type floor plate on the magazine, which improves your chances of quickly getting it out and getting another one in after someone has rammed one in covered in mud. The M 213 Chinese version of this also has a chrome plated barrel shown in the above photograph. these are brand new unfired but have the usual scratch marks and rough corners as shown in the photographs. as standard the barrels are a millimetre short for club licences so are fitted with a slightly longer barrel. The steel is excellent and once a few surfaces, such as slides, are polished they are a slick an easy pointing pistol. eight rounds in the magazine.

The Williams Carbine short-stroke gas piston design. About 1939 the design section of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company developed a semi-automatic rifle action based on an extremely short throw of gas piston system designed by ex-convict, reformed boot legger, David Williams.  The extremely short but vigorous throw of the piston gives impetus to the operating rod which completes the unlocking and retraction of the bolt. Shortly thereafter the Military services of the United States Army expressed a wish for a light, semi-automatic carbine which would weigh only about five pounds, would shoot a light and small caliber .30 cal cartridge with a 100 grain bullet at M.V. 2,000 f.s., effective to 300 yards. It was the specifications for a light weight assault rifle, which was years before its time. It was proposed to arm all men not equipped with the Infantry rifle (Garand) with this carbine, and to almost obsolete the pistol for military service. The Winchester design was selected by competition among many inventors, and because the Winchester gas cylinder design combined with a breech mechanism similar in design (although not in size) to that of the Garand proved to be the best, at that time it became known as the U.S. Carbine, Caliber .30, M1. They say that 6 million were made before the end of World War Two and commercial manufactures made millions after the War for the commercial sporting market. Ironically, they were made in Germany and Japan after the war.

Inventor David Williams showing the short piston design he designed.

The four outstanding automatic pistol actions that have been developed are the Browning/ Colt Model 1911, the Walther HP (P-38), the German Luger, and the German Military 1896 Mauser. Another type of pistol action, at present adapted only to the .22 caliber rim fire cartridge, examples of which are the Colt Woodsman and the Hi-Standard, Ruger Mk1, Browning Buck Mark has been very successful, and will probably have a long life for civilian target use. The above, are  just a few of the really famous outstanding semi-automatics. Next edition, How Semi Auto’s work?

A little Victory for Free Speech on the 18th Oct 2010 Justice Douglas of the Supreme Court handed down his decision on my appeal against the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal decision, which had ordered me to pay $12,500 plus cost to a Lesbian Group who had made a complaint against me in 2005. Justice Douglas found for me and set aside the decision of the Tribunal and referred the constitutional questions via QCAT to the Court of Appeal.  seehttp://archive.sclqld.org.au/qjudgment/2010/QSC10-387.pdf for a copy of the judgement. It was good news. (Years of Work) now at last for a short time we may be free to state an opinion, such as “that Sodomist’s (as defined in Criminal Code) are not happy, they have a reduced life expectancy and their health issues are a huge burden on the community. They should not be allowed to annoy people in Public toilets, Bus stops, Council swimming pools, or other Council facilities, or adopt children”. That’s what started it, and so I have just said it again. Let’s see what happens.  We either have the right to political free speech or we don’t.

Queensland Gun Laws Apparently, there were 1200 submissions received disagreeing with the draft Weapons Act and Regulations, the Police Minister has asked the police to supply them all to his office instead of just supplying a precis of them and he has set up another panel to vet the Draft legislation in view of those submissions. so those of you who are part of the 200,000 shooters in Queensland, who did nothing,  need to thank the 1200 that made an effort to suggest modifications. It is not too late to phone up your local Member of Parliament and let him know or his staff that you will not vote for him, if he votes for any further inhibitions to your shooting. Don’t worry that you might not vote for him any way as that is why we have a secret vote.

War is HELLThe purpose of fighting is to win. there is no possible victory in defence. The sword is more important than the shield and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.” – John Steinbeck my Grandad spent 35 years in the British Army 1890 to 1925, he had been to wars in the Soudan, South Africa, Afghanistan, four years in France, Russia and Ireland. he sometimes said, ‘We need a good war, sort out this younger generation’. When I was about 13year young, I asked him what the difference was between a good War and a bad War. quick as a flash, he said, A good war is one you have in someone else’s country.

In February 1920, the Australian Chief of General Staff  General Chauvel had echoed the views of my granddad, when he wrote: “The advantages, moral and material, of fighting in the enemy’s country are so enormous that it is folly to await the enemy’s attack on our own soil … The AIF had an opportunity to fight abroad and defend Australia so effectively that Australia hardly realised that it was defence and not offence, her troops had undertaken … The community must, therefore make up its mind, however unwillingly, that all preparations for the defence of Australia, thorough and complete as they may be, may break down absolutely, if, at a final and decisive moment, the weapon of defence cannot be transferred beyond our territorial waters.”

The message is loud and clear, you have to do your fighting in some one else’s country Wars are messy and the laws of War, the law of Chivalry is all a fantasy, a Don Quixote dream. Its kill or be killed. Kill enough of them to keep them in check until we have to come back again and kill some more, to keep them from storming all over our back yards. The Romans did it, Pax Roma was peace after they had killed everyone in the country they invaded. They crossed the Rhine on an annual basis to kill the latest crop of Germans, they only left bones behind them. The Zulu’s did the same.  At Magdeburg, in Germany, during the 30 Year War, the Catholic forces laid siege, it lasted from November 1630 until 20 may 1631. on the latter date, Imperial Field Marshal Gottfried Heinrich Graf zu Pappenheim, and Johann Tserclaes, Count of Tilly, attacked Magdeburg for its rich stores of goods. After the city fell the Imperial soldiers went out of control and started to massacre the inhabitants and set fire to the city. of the 30,000 citizens, only 5,000 survived. for fourteen days, charred bodies were carried to the Elbe River to be dumped in to prevent disease. He called it Divine Justice. in a letter, Pappenheim wrote of the Sack: “I consider it cost the city more than 20,000 souls, and most certainly no greater horrors and divine justice have been seen since the Destruction of Jerusalem. All our soldiers have become rich men.” At the time of the Peace of Westphalia ending the war in 1648, the city’s population had further dropped so that only 450 people were still living in the city. The devastation was so great that “magdeburgization” became an oft-used term signifying total destruction, rape and pillaging for decades. The terms “Magdeburg justice”, “Magdeburg mercy” and “Magdeburg quarter” also arose as a result of the Sack, used originally by Protestants when executing Catholics who begged for quarter. It became a familiar cry like, Remember the Alamo, or Remember Pearl Harbour.

Where ever you have Soldiers killing Soldiers, Civilians Die at the Rate of  five to one. in WW2 when Germany invaded Russia civilian deaths were 19 million, When Japan invaded China civilian deaths were 9 million, when Germany invaded Yugoslavia a small country of 17 million people 1.3 million civilians were killed, when Germany was invaded it had 2 million civilians killed.  60 million civilians died in World War Two in 50 countries. (Australia had over 300 civilians killed from Japanese Air and submarine shelling) Estimates of between 19,890 and French civilians were killed during and after the D-Day landings, in just a few day. in the Nato bombing of  Belgrade in 1999  5000 civilians died, in the war on Irak 109,032 civilians have died. War is Hell. When you have enemies that are quite capable of bringing the war to your backyard, who are raising money, buying arms, cutting off aid workers heads with a pocket knife and filming the process, it does not matter if they fly a few civilian planes into building, blow up London buses, or an occasional night club in Bali. The few thousand deaths by those methods are tragic but in comparison with having warring armies on your territory, tiny.  The name of the game is the same as the Romans, take the war to there back yard and fight them there. All this stupidity about making them into democratic countries is rubbish, they don’t want it, they want to be Muslim countries with Sharia Laws. They want to go to Allah with 72 virgins. We pay our soldiers, they are all volunteers, to help send the bad guys to Allah before they can travel to Australia to bring Hell here. if we do not fight them in their own countries they will be sending our families and friends and even worse, ourselves to our deaths. We would be fortunate if any one buries us, as more than likely we would not win and Australians could not depend on any mercy from those who are so handy with a pocket knife . It could be your head they are cutting off and showing it on the six o clock news. We in Australia have a large coastline and are for many reasons un- defence able.

Three Australian Soldiers charged with Manslaughter. now three Australian soldiers are facing serious charges in relation to a late-night raid on a compound in Afghanistan that Uruzgan province that was believed to harbor Taliban insurgents. Six Afghans were killed five of them children. (are they the under 18s and over 10s who wield AKM 74 and grenades) instead of giving our soldiers a raise or a fortnights holiday at Cronella Beach they have charged three soldiers with manslaughter, and dangerous  conduct. Maybe our idiots don’t realise that you train your soldiers to slaughter, that is what they are paid for and war is dangerous conduct. You put your men on the ground in their backyard the enemy will try to kill them. your soldiers will try to kill the enemy before they get killed themselves. if anyone in the world wants to put someone on trial as the precedents have shown, it should be our fearless leaders who send them to that country to do, soldiers work. They put on trial at the Hague, the Serbian politicians or the African Tyrants, they hanged about 20 Germans at Nuernberg after World War Two and hanged a few Japanese leaders, for the deaths of 60 million civilians. They did not put on trial the officers who piloted the Lancasters and Flying fortress and burnt 60,000 in Dresden in one night . Neither did they charge Paul Tibbets  the pilot who on the 6th  August 1945  flew the Enola Gay to drop an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, that one act killed 70,000 and another 70,000 died later of radiation burns. as it and its sequel finished the war in the Pacific they were handed medals. The Morals as Shakespeare put it in Henry V on the night before Agincourt, WILLIAMS, “ But if the cause be not good, the king himself hath a heavy reckoning to make, when all those legs and arms and heads, chopped off in battle, shall join together at the latter day and cry all ‘We died at such a place;’ some swearing, some crying for a surgeon, some upon their wives left poor behind them, some upon the debts they owe, some upon their children rawly left. I am afeard there are few die well that die in a battle; for how can they charitably dispose of any thing, when blood is their argument? now, if these men do not die well, it will be a black matter for the king that led them to it; whom to disobey were against all proportion of subjection.” Aye that is the rub, who led them to it? not that women  Brigadier Lyn McDade calling her a soldier is an insult to the profession, of any side, at any time in history. no, the only blame is on those who employ women to do a mans job and who select a country to send soldiers to. as we call ourselves a democracy the blame is on all of us. I don’t hate Muslims or any particular nation, as an ex soldier I know its just a job; Wars are inevitable as night and day, there is no spring without winter, there is no life without death, there is no courage without fear, there is no peace without war. War is a human predicament.

East is East and West is West and the two will never twain, there are good man on all sides, says Kipling and I believe him. Remember, the civilian  casualty figures above, when it starts you have to win it, and you have to fight it, in other countries. Its just a choice of which countries. We will only be given one chance, if Australia loses once, we and all its people in it, will not exist, no one will show us any mercy. We are a white nation at the other end of the earth. no one will care about our few 20 million here. so as General Chauvel said “The community must, therefore make up its mind, however unwillingly, that all preparations for the defence of Australia, thorough and complete as they may be, may break down absolutely, if, at a final and decisive moment, the weapon of defence cannot be transferred beyond our territorial waters.” Send those poor soldier back to doing their job, give them a pay rise, we don’t pay them enough, Pay the politicians less. Never forget what my Grandad identified as a ‘good war’. ‘One in somebody else’s country’.  Ron Owen.

Slimline Electronic Ear Muffs Hear and Protect, Hear normally up to 85 db Electronically reduces & protects hearing  Protects hearing above 85 db,  Able to hear normal conversations and sounds to 85 decibels over 200 hours of battery life , Auto-adjust headband , Solid state circuit, Rotary on-off volume knob. HOW THE ELECTRONIC EAR MUFFS WORK these electronic ear muffs are a high standard ear muff in design, they are made to feel light and comfortable for all day use. They can be used as standard ear muff when the electronic component is not turned on and will passively reduce noise like any normal ear muff. They have a standard noise reduction rating of 29 decibel and are a Class 5. once turned on the microphone, located at the top of the ear muff, will pick up and amplify ambient noise. if some one standing next to you talks, their voice will be amplified through the speakers in both ear muffs. should there be a loud noise, such as a firearm, the electronic ear muffs will automatically cut out and block the loud noise. The electronic ear muffs are designed to attenuate noise about 85 decibels, meaning that they will block out instantly, once the noise reaches a certain level. The electronic ear muffs allow you to control the volume level of ambient noise around you. on the shooting range with constant loud reports, the electronic ear muffs will block this noise. for range instructions or to communicate with another person, you can instantly hear them speak. At the range or anywhere ear protection is constantly required, but you also need to hear instructions from others or you wish to be more aware of the ambient sound around you, these electronic ear muffs are what you need.

The Norinco JW 105. in .223 Remington. this is the (Jain Way) JW Model 105, sometimes called Norinco. these rifles are made in the same factory that manufactures the now famous JW 15 .22 rifle (the Brno Mod one Copy) if you have had a JW15 or know of anyone who had one, you will know that they shoot sometimes better than the rifle they imitiated. these JW105 s are in .223 Remington calibre and have a five shot detachable magazine. They also come with Weaver style mount bases and quick Detachable studs for QD sling swivels  if you look carefully at the close up photograph you will notice a shiny silver colour, at the breech face, the camera has picked up the chrome plating from inside the chamber. The Chinese are the only non-military manufactures that can afford the chrome process of plating the Barrels and Chambers. They have also chromed the forward section of the Bolt. Chrome plating gives the best protection against erosion and corrosion than anything else besides regualr cleaning. The JW 105 is a copy of the Geveram that was very popular in the 1950s and 1960s, they were very good quality but I believe that Gevarm had to stop making them as the were too expensive to produce. these are the best value .223 remington centre-fire, repeating rifle on the market.

DOUBLE BASE POWDER Nitroglycerine is a major ingredient in double base powders, as mentioned earlier. Double base powders do have slightly higher energy content, which means they can be used in smaller quantities, than single base types. The major producer of double base powders for the reloader was the Hercules Powder Company which is now called Alliant Powder. Nitrocellulose constitutes from 65 to 82 per cent of the weight of double base powders. a common military powder formula contains 75.50 per cent nitrocellulose, 20.00 per cent nitroglycerine, 1.00 per cent potassium nitrate, 1.50 per cent barium nitrate, 0.75 per cent diphenylamine, 1.00 per cent DNT (the deterrent), and 0.25 per cent graphite. this formula is nearly identical to that of the old discontinued Hercules Hi-Vel #2. Some special purpose military powders contain as much as 45 per cent nitroglycerine. The nitrocellulose used is identical to that described earlier in single base powders. Nitrocellulose may be diverted to either single or double base powder lines (both of which often are operating simultaneously at the same mill) at any point before final blending of the high and low grades. You’ll recall a 13.15 per cent blend is prepared for single base use, 13.45 per cent for double base. The latter is insoluble in ether-alcohol solvent used in single base manufacture, but readily dissolves in the acetone-nitroglycerine double base solvent. Acetone not only serves as a solvent when mixed with nitroglycerine, but somewhat desensitizes the latter to make for safer handling. Naturally, the process of manufacturing nitrocellulose remains the same, clear through the dehydration stage where water is displaced by alcohol and mix is compressed into a cake. Nitroglycerine must, of course, be manufactured and supplied to the powder mill. Since nitro is especially dangerous to produce and extremely hazardous to transport, it is normally manufactured in a separate plant immediately adjacent to the powder mill. Nitro plant output is regulated to meet the needs of the powder mill to avoid storage problems. Essentially, heated (115°-120°F) glycerine is combined with highly concentrated nitric and sulphuric acids and agitated. Eventually, the nitroglycerine and spent acids are separated, the latter being recovered for re concentration and further use. The nitroglycerine is washed and purified to remove acid traces, then stabilized and neutralized, and stored under water. All that remains is to incorporate it in powder, before it blows up. The manufacturing process is certainly far from as simple as the foregoing might indicate. It is not, however, the purpose of this volume to be a text on nitroglycerine manufacture, and the foregoing is sufficient for an understanding of the manufacture of double base powder. Will a .44-40 quickly kill a deer?

Filed in winchester carbine Leave a comment

I like guns, but my finances are stretched. I have thus been collecting guns by buying relatively unpopular guns, sold by people devastated by California’s financial nosedive ($20 Billion in the Hole.) For example, my latest Acquisition was an Astra 400 for $150 dollars. The guy was broke and desperate and the caliber was .38 ACP/9mm Largo. Well, I have another sort of deal like that, but in .44-40, a caliber sort of hard to buy in stores. I assume I will only be able to buy it over the internet, like 9mm Largo. This carpenter for Los Angeles City Schools is being RIF’ed and is selling everything and moving to Texas. He is willing to sell me this Brazilian made copy (Puma) of a Winchester Model 92 lever action Carbine in .44-40. I like it. I am a very small man. And this is really small and light. Even lighter than a Winchester Model 94 .30-30. Also, the gun is so short, I can actually fit it into a large nylon gym bag/duffel bag, I have with a strap. I could walk down the road with it, and no one would know what it was. A real bonus in a national park where 99% of the people are commuters between Palmdale and Los Angeles who freak and call the police at the sight of a firearem. I have no natural hunting skills. In fact, the way I hunt is by advice from a guy who works for the Forest Service. Right behind Los Angeles is this enormous National Forest (Angeles National Forest) with 10,000 foot peaks, and bear, deer, and Nelson Bighorn Sheep. No one hunts there. I know a ranger, and every year, he tells me a likely spot, usually downwind, and above a water hole. Most of my shots are between 60 and 80 yards. Will a .44-40 kill a deer humanely between 60 and 80 yards?MeatLet me guess. You don’t actually take the time to read the entire question, correct?

Will a .44-40 quickly kill a deer?

Incident of the Early Morning of July the 6th

Wharton, Roy, and Balkans were walking back from an arms deal/meeting with some other mercenaries. They were dressed the way they normally are and were all carrying their weapons of choice. It was early in the morning about 3:45 AM. They were walking down a normal, everyday neighborhood street trying to get back to their MRAP armored vehicle they parked a few blocks away from the meeting. The three were walking abreast. As they were walking, they came upon suddenly, from the shadows three youths (aged 15 to 18). The youths were dressed head to toe in all black and were wielding several weapons and carrying plenty of ammunition. The ringleader, named Lovett, was carrying an SKS carbine. Hodges was carrying a shotgun. Hollis was carrying a scoped semiautomatic rifle. All three of them had ammunition strapped to them, another rifle, shotgun, or carbine slung onto their backs, and a few knives and swords fashioned to themselves. Wharton was carrying his Winchester 1897 shotgun underneath his coat and a Jericho 941 pistol in a holster. Roy had his scoped model 760 rifle slung across his back and a charter arms undercover pistol in his waistband. Balkans was carrying his Colt Combat Elite in a side holster and a Detonics combat master behind his back. The three heavily armed youths stopped walking when they saw Wharton, Roy, and Balkans. The two groups stared at each other for a long moment. Lovett raised his SKS and pointed it at Wharton. Wharton tried to get him to put the gun down and let them be. “You don’t want to do this, you’re making a big mistake.” Wharton told them cautiously. Lovett ignored him and told him to shut up. Wharton pushed the SKS away with his left hand and shoved Lovett to the earth with the other. Wharton, Balkans and Roy scrambled for cover and for their guns as Lovett staggered to his feet and Hodges and Hollis raised their weapons. Hodges and Hollis fired a few shots at the group. Hollis targeted Roy, took three shots at the fast moving Roy and missed all three. Hodges fired two shotgun blasts at the group in general, but they failed to hit anything. Wharton whipped out his shotgun as he ran and fired two shots to suppress the armed youths, so Roy and Balkans could reach cover. Balkans fired a shot from his Colt Combat Elite as his ran. Roy just unslung and prepared his 760 rifle as he ran for cover. Wharton was the last man to cover as Lovett stood up and fired 3 shots at him. The group was now about 25 yards away from the youths, taking cover behind cars. Roy exposed himself a bit to get a better shot at Hollis, Hodges saw the exposed Roy and went for a shot, but Wharton suppressed him at the last moment with a shotgun blast. Sending tree bark and woodchips flying up as Hodges nearly stumbled backward. Hodges then fired at Wharton; his shotgun shots stopped cold by the car. Balkans fired two shots from his CCE at Lovett to scare him and stop his firing for a second or two.  Hollis fired more shots at Roy. As soon as Roy was behind cover he raised his rifle and took a quick off the cuff, but accurate shot at Hollis. The shot hit Hollis smack in the middle of the top of his rib cage. Roy, in a rare mistake, fumbled cocking his rifle and dropped it. Roy quickly pulled out his charter arms undercover pistol and fired 4 hollow point bullets at Hollis in the blink of an eye. All four shots hit home, Hollis dropped his rifle and fell forward onto the moonlit pavement of the street dead. Lovett and Hodges let out a cry when they saw Hollis fall. They began to fire more and a lot faster and even advanced towards the group. Lovett fired 5 shots in quick succession at Wharton; they came dangerously close, but missed. Wharton cocked his shotgun and fired a precise shot at Lovett that hit him square. Lovett nearly dropped his rifle from the impact of the trench shot. Balkans took a shot at the stunned Lovett, which hit him in his left hand, mauling it. Lovett was severely wounded by the shotgun blast and was on the verge of collapsing/passing out from blood loss. Hodges could get only one shotgun blast off before Wharton turned and hit him center mass with some trench shot as well. Hodges staggered and nearly dropped his shotgun. Wharton put the spent shotgun down and took out the Jericho 941. He unloaded onto Hodges with the Jericho, firing 4 devastating shots. Roy also fired his last two hollow points at Hodges. All of the shots hit home, after being shot several times a Jericho shot hit Hodges in the face; a bloodied Hodges fell backward onto the sidewalk dead. An extremely weak, severely wounded Lovett tried to raise his SKS with his last once of strength and managed to squeeze the trigger once or twice. The shots hit the pavement, alerting the group to the threat, which remained. Balkans raised his CCE, focused, and put a .45 slug right dead center into Lovett’s forehead. The wounded Lovett collapsed dead. After Lovett had fallen, Wharton, Roy, and Balkans reloaded their guns, stacked up, and advanced cautiously, guns out the remaining distance to the MRAP armored vehicle. Wharton leapt into the drivers’ seat, Roy into the passenger seat, and Balkans into the back. They drove off into the night as fast as they could. When the MRAP reached the hideout, they parked it underneath some camouflage netting. They rushed inside guns out. Wharton, Roy, and Balkans soon locked up their guns and went to sleep (with back up guns close by), but assigned a member of their group named Jarvis, who is a 9/11 victim and an insomniac to guard the door in case a counterattack might come. The 9/11 victim then guarded the front door all night as the others slept, with his Smith and Wesson M76 fixated forward. The counterattack never came.
