Local sports roundup: McConnell, Mahaffey get no-hitters

East Gaston 7, Olympic 0 — Shanie McConnell struck out seven and yielded no hits in seven innings of work to pick up her first seven-inning no-hitter of the season. Lindsey Greeson, McConnell, Taylor Hawley and Shelby Winchester had two hits each for East Gaston (7-0, 3-0 MEGA 7 3A/4A), which visits St. Stephens on Friday.

South Point 11, Ashbrook 0 (five innings) — Taylor Mahaffey tossed her first no-hitter of the season, striking out nine. Mahaffey (two hits), Jordan Wilson (two hits, double, two-run home run), Haley Stewart (two hits), Graylin Heustess (two hits, two RBIs) and Katie Sneathen (two hits) led South Point at the plate. The Red Raiders (5-1, 2-0 big South 3A) host Forestview on Friday. Emily Long had Ashbrook’s lone hit. Kristin Cheek got the loss for the Green Wave (0-5, 0-2 big South 3A), who visit Kings Mountain on Friday.

Kings Mountain 18, Hunter Huss 0 (five innings) — Taylor Faris (four hits), Molly Short (three hits) and Reagan Childers (two hits, three RBIs) and Emily Gates (two hits) led Kings Mountain at the plate. Camille Watson picked up the win for the Mountaineers, while Lea Swick pitched two scoreless innings. Faris turned an unassisted triple play from second base in the fourth inning. Kings Mountain (2-1, 1-0 big South 3A) hosts Ashbrook on Friday.

North Gaston 10, Forestview 0 (six innings) — Olivia Denton (two hits) and Sullivan Owens (two hits) led North Gaston at the plate. Sidney Mitchell struck out 12 to pick up the win. The Wildcats (3-4, 2-0 big South 3A) host Highland Tech tonight at 6 p.m.

Lincoln Charter 10, Queens Grant 0 — Taylor Wingate got the win. Victoria Morgan, Jennifer Allison, Jada Johnson and Taylor Wilson led Lincoln Charter at the plate. The Eagles (4-4, 1-1) host Cherryville on Thursday.

West Lincoln 12, Highland Tech 2 (five innings) — Spencer Gardner (three hits), Krishna Rana (two hits) and Derek Braun (two hits) led West Lincoln at the plate. Chandler Jenkins picked up the win. West Lincoln (8-1, 4-0 Southern Piedmont 1A/2A) hosts Lincolnton on Friday at 7 p.m.

Tabernacle Dallas 4, Tabernacle Monroe 3 — Tyler Dellinger got the win for Tabernacle of Dallas (1-1), which visits Victory Christian in Charlotte on Friday. Jonathan Lindsay (two hits) and Andrew McBride (two hits) led Tabernacle at the plate.

Cramerton Christian 4, new Manna 3 — Josh Jenkins (two hits, four RBIs) led Cramerton Christian at the plate. Zack Stewart got the win, striking out 12, to improve to 2-1. The Crusaders (2-2) visit Tabernacle of Monroe on Friday.

East Lincoln 9, Lincolnton 1 —East Lincoln (9-1, 3-0 Southern Piedmont 1A/2A) got three hits from Jake Carter and two hits from Parker Hills. David Keener got the win for the Mustangs, who visit Bessemer City on Friday.

Forestview 7, Crest 2 — Singles winners for Forestview: Rob Arend, Justin Henry, Jake Emerson and Rudy Flint. Doubles winners for Forestview: Arend-Henry and Emerson-Campbell Smith. The Jaguars (5-0, 1-0 big South 3A) host North Gaston on Thursday.

Ashbrook 8, North Gaston 1 — Singles winners for Ashbrook: Daniel Nelli, Josh Rath, Freddie Wells, Casey Frye and Garnett Bullock. Singles winner for North Gaston: Drew Stewart. Doubles winners for Ashbrook: Nelli-Rath, Wells-Bullock and Frye-Connor Dehaven. Ashbrook (2-3, 1-1 big South 3A) hosts South Point on Thursday.

Gaston Christian 164, Statesville Christian 224 — Medalist Knox Gibson (34), Joseph Holman (41), Aaron Shepard (43) and Josh Friday (46) led the Eagles during the match at Gastonia Municipal.

South Point 12, Ashbrook 3 — Luke Beach (two hits) led South Point at the plate. Dan Johnson tossed a complete game, yielding five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk to pick up the win for South Point. The Red Raiders (7-0, 3-0 big South 3A) host Forestview on Friday.

North Gaston 12, Forestview 6 — Jamie Barstrom pitched the win, Courtland Dodd cranked out four hits and Jody Baker, Trey Holt and Brandon Anderson added two hits apiece for North Gaston (6-1, 3-0 big South), which hosts Crest on Friday.

Kings Mountain 18, Hunter Huss 8 — The Mountaineers evened their league record at 1-1 (5-2 overall). Alex Grooms picked up the mound decision. Andrew Moore and Alex Reynolds doubled for the Mounties with Daniel Barrett and Cameron Bullock also hitting safely for the victors.

South Point 3, East Lincoln 0 (Monday) – Aaron Biggerstaff tossed a complete-game shutout. Johnson (two hits, two RBIs) led South Point at the plate.

Middle school baseball

Gaston Christian 15, Gaston Day 0 (four innings) — Denver Monteith (two hits, three RBIs) and Landon Guy (two hits, two runs) led Gaston Christian at the plate. Guy picked up the win, tossing a one-hitter. The Eagles improved to 2-4.

East Lincoln 8, Kings Mountain 7 — Brandon Bell pitched seven innings, striking out 10 while giving up seven hits, two earned runs and a walk as the Patriots (4-1) committed seven errors. Kings Mountain batted around and scored five runs in the first and eventually led 6-2 before losing in the seventh. Raquan Allen had a 2-run single in the first, and Tanner Orders had an RBI double in the second. The Patriots play at North Lincoln on Thursday.

Kings Mountain 14, Lincolnton 4 (6 innings) — The Patriots scored seven runs in the top of the first to set the tone on Monday. Matt Absher pitched six innings, giving up five hits, one earned run and one walk while striking out six. Tanner Orders (3-for-4), Brandon Bell (2-for-5), Jacob Lainhart (2-for-4), Colby Crisp (2-for-3) and Adams (2-for-3) had multi-hit outings. s
